Evaluation Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what would you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Since the prelimiary task I have learnt a lot about the different software and how to use it. I also know now that planning is vital and not being organised can lead to unfortunate consequences for your group. Such as rushed filming and editing, messed up shooting schedules cause problems such as showing up to film when there is no actor/actress for your film.
Editing for my first film was quick and we cut shots of the film short, this ruined some of the camerawork as it did not flow. This is better now as from practise I have better knowledge of the edting programmes and how they work best. I have learned to add to my film; for example: titles and soundtrack. Along with the technique of the spit edit I used, and the variety of camera shots I played with in the preliminary task I have now improved my final film and created a better piece of work from the first task. With all of this added together I have made a better film this time.
Roles within the group are assigned quickly so responsibility can be split and work can be done at twice the pace with everyones ideas involved in the proccess. With diffusion of responsibility it is less of a work load and everyone can get something done for the film, without feeling left out.
I have defintly made progress from the first task and it shows in my final film.

Evaluation Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I used a variety of technology to create my film, such as:
DV camera, and DV tape
Capture process on an apple Mac computer
StoryBoard Quick
Final Cut
Sountrack pro
Live Type
Final Draft 2.5
You Tube

I have learnt that each part of different software is all used in the vital stages in film makingprocess, each of them is used for something different to build you final film.
I have learnt the advantagea and disadvantages ti DV camera and tape:
Advantages:
Tapes are cheap
Long recording time
View direct footage from DV tape on camera
Easy to edit video footage
work well for holding raw footage or completed video projects
Disadvantages:
Play tapes through camcorder to import footage onto computer, this occurs in real time
playing DV tapes put wear and tear on to you camcorder, so beat not to do this too often
As well as this I have learnt a simpler way to upload video; this is by using You Tube by embedding the videos it was easy to upload on to my blog.
Live type allowed me to design my titles making them my own, so I could incorporate the binary opposition theory by using Live Type, as I could chose the colours.
Below are photoshop presentations I have created to show the type of software and presentation tools, as well as equipment I have used for this years project.

Evaluation Question 5: How did you attract/address your audience?

1)British independent Film
2)Young actress
3)Thriller genre
4)New technology
5)Camerawork
6)Soundtrack
These six ways of attraction will be appeal to my audience as, firlstly my film has a young actress this will be appealing to a young audience as they will be able to relate to the character, and the age group. This will especially atract the male audience as they will be interested in the damsel in distress.Another attraction for males is simply that it is a thriller, males prefer to watch this genre over females.
The film is a british film this will attract a british audience; audiences from around the area it was filmed will be very interested in something new that has been produced in their area. They will be able to make a relationship between parts of the costume, props and themselves.
The technology used in my film would also be of interest for movie fans as a split edit is used to create the image of twins when only one actor is used initially.
The soundtrack is eerie and follows typical conventions of a thriller this will be of interest to the audience again; as the soundtarck is used to highlight the mood and tone of the actors/actresses. So they will be able to make the relationship between a certain sound motif and know what character is about to appear or predict their behaviour.
In the film I used a variety of shots to create a different feel for every scene I included: mid-shot, longshots, close-ups, and point of view shot. This would enticing to an audience as they will feel the moods changing by the camerawork and feel part of it from the point of view shots.

Evaluation Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

From the research I have carried out using IMDB and You Tube, I have read comments left on the websited along with the statistcs by IMDB; and I have concluded that my audienc
e will be male dominant. Through further research with a questionnaire I found a specifc age range for my film. 15-50 plus was my audience perhaps older condidering individual tastes. Along with this I also used questionnaire to find out how my audience would see the film; the age rang of 15-24 were most likely to go to t
he cinema to watch it, this id perhaps because this age range is the most frequent cinema goers. but 24 plus were more likely to wait for the film to be released on DVD and sufficient amounts of my audience were more likely to but a DVD copy rather than a Blu-ray. 45 Plus were th
e age range most likely to rent the film.

A typical audience member: case study

Name:Robbie Small
Sex: Male
Age:19 - D.O.B: 22/12/1990
Hobbies/interests: Work,gym,socialising
Favorite Film Genre: Thriller
Favorite Film: Eagle Eye
Reason why: Stories make
you think, gets you interested, the girls
How hear/get information on films: Internet advertising, Cinema Websites, Not usually TV trailers for thriller films
Favorite
way to watch films: Cinema, rentals, wait for them to come on on
DVD

This is a typical audience member for my film as he is old enough for all certificates of film, and enjoys thrillers the most of all genres, including his favourite film as a thriller. As
my audience is male dominant Robbie fits in perfectly. He does say that thrillers don't usually have television trailers this is beacuse thrillers are usually certified 15 or 18s; this is because of the material that they contain. So it could not be shown on daytime telivision but after the w
ater shed a nine o'clock.Below is a picture of a perfect audience member for my film.

Evaluation Question 3: What kind of institution might distribute your media product and why?

Columbia Pictures Industries is an American film production and distribution company. Columbia Pictures now forms part of the Columbia Tristar motion picture group, owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, a subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate Sony. It is one of the leading film companies in the world, a member of the so-called bigstix. It was one of the so-called little three among the eight major film studios of Hollywood's golden age.
The Grudge, Mr.Deeds, Fun With Dick And Jane, Hancock, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Did You Hear About The Morgans?, The Bounty Hunter. These are examples of films that Columbia Pictures have produced and/or released, these films have been successes for Columbia Pictures. So I would hope that by using their good name and reputation they would be able to raise the profile on my film and make it a sucess too.
Below is Columbia Pictures Logo.

Evaluation Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My main character shows representation as a thriller conventional damzel in distress; she is a young teenage girl still in school this is shown through props, costume, mis en scene, her speech and wealth and class.
My main character is representing the victim, my film highlights this by how our camerwork has been manipulated so the audience can established she is the victim. She has the most camera time and the lighting is changed throughout the scenes to add to the feel of victimisation so the audience can feel it too.
The villain is represented as sneaky, the sister no one wants to be; In the film she is represented this way as most thrillers have sneaky killers beacuse they don't want to get caught.
The wealth and class of the characters is shown as thay have a sit down meal at a dinner table, this is a stereo typical view of middle class citizens; this then reveals their class and also their wealth as they are drinking wine with their meal.
Costume is the attire worn by your character to represent her wealth, class and social group. As she carries a typical school handbag in the film this shows that she is still in school. A prop she uses is a mobile phone this again highlights her youth and adds to the stereo typical view of middle class people as ahe has her own mobile. The costume chosen for my main character was simple but smart black and white; this was chosen to show binary opposition in the characters. I used binary opposition in this way to shows the theoretical opposition between the twins. It showed the role dominace of the villain over her sister.
Below is a picture of our main character, we chose someone with an innocent yet attractive face to fit the role:

Evaluation Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product develops conventions of thrillers by following the same genre that is a psychological thriller, this genre is in a range of films one being the sixth sense. But our film is very different to this type of psychological thriller.
My film challenges thriller convention as our villain and victim are sisters, but twins not just sisters. Films that have twins in tend to be of a different genre for example the film Twins. But like our film establishes movies that have twins in them will only want to use one actor/actress; so a technique called a split edit will be used to clone that actor/actress making them a twin. This device is used in The Parent Trap as well as my own film.
Another convention we have developed in our film is that it does not flow chronologically as our ending is at the start of our film. This is used in many films to confuse and make the audience feel uneased. For example Quentin Tarantino uses this technique in Pulp Fiction.
The recent film Triangle uses similar simple titles as I mayself did for our film; I also used them to keep in with my binary opposition theory we had incorporated into our film. Both Triangle and my own film had black and whithe titles although in different fonts and presented differently. But still both used for the same genre of film.

Another device I have used which is shown within another film is binary opposition theory, this ia a pair of theoretical opposites. This is used in the film Scarface on the main poster to the film, and as the front cover to DVD'S and Blu-rays. Binary opposition is used here to show the transition form good to evil, very similar to how we have used it in our film.
Single White Female this film has many comparisions with my own as this was my initial research for my idea. The plot has a twist much similar to ours but not identical, this film allowed us to make our idea our own but still follow the guidelines of a psychological thriller.
Dead Ringers is already a film and of the same genre to my own, I again developed the convention of a typical guessing game title. But Dead Ringers is very different to our film as it is more male dominate in actors and is mouch older. Whereas our film is much more modern.
Lastly our film develops another convention of a thriller with the soundtrack we used, very eerie and chilling a sound to go along with the plot. Similar music is used in the film Schindlers List, the music has been used in a similar way as to create a certain feel before the film has began.
The films I have used to highlight my challenging and development of thriller conventions I have presented below in a photoshop document.
